The American singer-songwriter and producer Jacquees made a comeback with the Exit 68 mixtape this past Labor Day holiday.
Georgia-born R&B artist Jacquees has released a new mixtape, Exit 68. The singer is known best for his 2016 single, “B.E.D.”, which was on the Billboard charts for seven weeks and made the Hot 100. His last release was the 2018 hit single “You,” which garnered Platinum certification from the RIAA and introduced him to the global music scene.
This year’s Labor Day, the Atlanta-based R&B singer launched his latest mixtape, Exit 68. The mixtape is a 16-track collection dedicated to the highway exit in Decatur, Georgia that Jacquees was raised by. The mixtape is filled with slow tempos and melismatic vocals that reach back older R&B artists that Jacquees looks up to and has been influenced by. These features are what makes up his signature writing style. On tracks like “Sumn’ Bout Your Love”, he shines on combining catchy guitar lines with lullaby-esque lyrical melodies.
This combination is also similarly seen on “Never Again,” a ballad that asks for absolution and understanding after a round of “getting too drunk and acting crazy.” Jacquees also features several hit R&B artists on some of his tracks. The all-alluring mix “All On You,” has Grammy Award-winning artist Trey Songz on collaboration, intertwining two of R&B’s most powerful voices. He also teams up with hip-hop artist FYB, bringing an explosive sound to their track “More Than a Little While.” In a statement that accompanied the release of Exit 68, the singer said he plans to release a new album, PTOF, later this year.
