London Afrobeats stalwart Mista Silva has released his killer new single ‘Murda’ via The Fader blog.
Despite its foreboding title, ‘Murda’ is an upbeat track with a celebratory tone. Mista Silva himself summed up the song like this: “Growing up as a black African in London, we’ve always been painted with negativity, so this record is about good vibes and shining above the negative energy placed upon me and my people!”
In their article officially releasing the track, The Fader said ‘Murda’ will “banish your negative energy”, noting that the track is not about homicide, instead focusing on murdering negativity. Mista Silva agrees, stating “‘Murda’ is about proving the stereotypes wrong!”. The Afrobeats community is loving the track, with Toddla T and Capital giving it great feedback so far.
2016 has been a big year for Mista Silva. The British-Ghanaian singer-rapper won Best African Act at the Urban Music Awards, and he was nominated for a MOBO for the third time, also in the Best African Act category.
As well as ‘Murda’, Mista Silva released the track ‘Mafia’ featuring Debrah Rose and HomeBros this year, and he featured on A-Star’s energetic ‘Power Rangers’.
As well as these, he released the DJ JULS-produced solo track #OMG (On My Grind), which gives an autobiographical take on Mista Silva’s south London hometown of Brockley. These tracks are all leading up to Mista Silva’s much hyped debut album release next year, which is sure to be an instant Afrobeats classic.
