Carmen Electra: The Self-Made Brand | News | MN2S Talent

The MN2S booking agency introduces a new celebrity addition to its talent roster – Carmen Electra. Born Tara Leigh Patrick, she was raised in Ohio to a musical family. Her father Harry was a guitarist and entertainer and her mother Patricia a singer. Electra attended Performing Arts schools for most of her adolescent life, studying dance under Gloria J. Simpson and appearing in school stage productions. In 1990, Electra kick-started her professional career in the entertainment industry as a dancer at Kings Island in her hometown of Ohio at the age of 18. The show, entitled “It’s Magic”, performed well with the public, however Electra wanted to explore other opportunities. The following year she made her move to California where she made the acquaintance of the legendary musician, Prince. Electra was signed by Prince through his recording company, Prince Park Record, where she established herself under the stage name ‘Carmen Electra’.

After her brief singing career, Electra progressed on to television and later glamour modelling. Her spread in the May 1996 issue of Playboy magazine led to positive exposure which then helped her to land main roles on popular TV shows such as Baywatch. Electra made several reappearances in the magazine from 1997 to 2009, taking the cover spot in the last of the three issues. She would also appear on the cover of FHM, becoming the oldest cover-girl in the history of the magazine. In the same year as her first appearance in Playboy, Electra also emerged for the first time on the big screen in the film American Vampire, followed by Good Burger.

In 2002, after having established herself as a versatile figure in the entertainment industry, Electra received the extremely unusual and very rare honour of having an extinct species of fly named after her. The former president of the International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature – Neal Evenhuis – introduced the ‘Carmenelectra shechisme’, citing her “splendid somal structure” as the reason for the name.

From 2005 to 2007, Electra continued to model, this time in adverts for Maxim hair products, Ritz Camera Center, Taco Bell and Max Factor cosmetics. She also branched out widely in terms of work, appearing in the Bloodhound Gang’s music video, Gang’s ‘The Inevitable Return of the Great White Dope’ and also a video game, Def Jam: Fight for New York. In 2007, Electra decided to finally put pen to paper and released her first book, How to Be Sexy.

Electra continued to make appearances in feature films such as Starsky & Hutch (2004) and Cheaper by the Dozen 2 (2005). She has also become well known for her roles in popular parody films such as Scary Movie (2000), Epic Movie (2007), Meet the Spartans (2008) and Disaster Movie (2008).

Most recently, Electra has appeared as a guest judge on So You Think You Can Dance and on the popular talent show Britain’s Got Talent as former judge Amanda Holden’s replacement; these stints helping to further familiarise broader sections of the public on both sides of the Atlantic with herself. She is also involved in several charitable causes, having organised a fundraiser for the organisation Head to Hollywood which supports survivors of brain tumours. Elevate Hope and the HollyRod Foundation are also charities that she supports; focusing on supporting abused and abandoned children and sufferers of debilitating illnesses such as Parkinson’s Disease respectively.

Over the years, Carmen Electra has proven herself to be more than just a pretty face. A passionate performer and a savvy business woman, she has turned her hand to many widely different areas of the entertainment industry – from films, to music, to publications – and has created a brand that is still very much in demand.
