Anushka

Anushka is a British electronic music duo formed in Brighton, England. The group consists of producer Max Wheeler and singer-songwriter Victoria Port. They emerged from Brighton’s vibrant club, music, and arts scenes. Their musical style combines elements of UK electronic club culture with jazz and soul influences, creating a sound they describe as ‘vocal bass music from the future’.

The duo gained significant early support from influential broadcasters such as Gilles Peterson. Their debut single, ‘Yes Guess,’ helped establish their presence in the electronic music scene. Following this, Anushka signed with Brownswood Recordings, Gilles Peterson’s label, and released their debut EP, ‘Distorted Air,’ in 2014. Later in the same year, they released their first full-length album, ‘Broken Circuit,’ which received critical acclaim and major airplay from various radio personalities, including Mary Anne Hobbs and Annie Mac.

Anushka continued to evolve their sound, releasing their second album, ‘Yemaya,’ in 2021. This album saw them explore darker and more intricate compositions. In 2025, they released their third album, ‘Ancestry,’ through BBE Music. ‘Ancestry’ is considered their most accomplished work to date, showcasing refined songwriting, arrangements, and production. Victoria Port’s songwriting for the album drew inspiration from artists like Ella Fitzgerald and Sampha, while Max Wheeler’s production incorporated influences from Moodymann, Theo Parrish, and 90s electronica such as Tricky and Portishead. The album was released digitally and on vinyl, further solidifying their position within the UK’s contemporary jazz and soul-fueled club music scene.
