AWOLNATION entered a creative partnership with Better Noise Music for their fourth full-length album, ANGEL MINERS & THE LIGHTNING RIDERS.
AWOLNATION was formerly signed to Red Bull Records. Aaron Bruno also discussed his partnership with Red Bull Records regarding the band's music.
Aaron Bruno was approached by Red Bull Records in 2009, leading to a partnership that allowed him free use of their Los Angeles recording studio. The band also released a B-side track from 'Run' named 'Wichita Panama' for Red Bull Records' 'Red Bull 20-Before-16' event.
Awolnation is an American rock band that originated in Los Angeles, California, in 2009. The project was founded and is fronted by Aaron Bruno, who previously was a member of bands such as Under the Influence of Giants, Home Town Hero, and Insurgence. The band initially signed with Red Bull Records after Bruno was offered free use of their recording studio, a collaboration he described as more of a “partnership.” Their first official release was the EP “Back from Earth” on May 18, 2010. This was followed by their debut studio album, “Megalithic Symphony,” on March 15, 2011.
“Megalithic Symphony” gained significant attention, particularly for its lead single, “Sail.” This song achieved considerable success, peaking at number 17 on the Billboard Hot 100, number 4 on the Billboard Rock Songs chart, and number 5 on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart. On June 14, 2021, “Sail” received diamond certification from the RIAA, signifying sales of over 10,000,000 copies in the United States, making it the 57th song to achieve this status. The album itself was certified platinum on February 29, 2016. The band continued to release music, with their second studio album, “Run,” in 2015, followed by “Here Come the Runts” in 2018, and “Angel Miners & the Lightning Riders” in 2020. In 2022, they released a covers album titled “My Echo, My Shadow, My Covers, and Me,” and their fifth studio album of original material, “The Phantom Five,” was released on August 30, 2024.
Throughout their career, Awolnation has maintained a consistent presence in the music industry. They have toured extensively, including supporting acts for major bands like Fall Out Boy and Twenty One Pilots. The band’s musical style has evolved, encompassing alternative rock, electronic rock, indie rock, electropop, pop rock, dance-rock, power pop, and hard rock. While early albums had a more electronica-heavy sound, later releases shifted towards an ‘organic’ indie rock sound, with “The Phantom Five” returning to a more electronic base. Awolnation has also received several nominations, including Top Alternative Song at the 2012 Billboard Music Awards and Alternative Rock Artist of the Year at the 2016 iHeartRadio Music Awards.
