Cosmic Gate

Cosmic Gate, a German DJ duo, was formed in 1999 by Claus Terhoeven (Nic Chagall) and Stefan Bossems (Bossi) in Krefeld, Germany. The duo began their career with their debut single “The Drums,” followed by “Exploration of Space” and “Mental Atmosphere.” Their early work also included a remix of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” incorporating samples from “The Wizard of Oz.” Cosmic Gate gained significant recognition in the UK with the release of their single “Fire Wire” in 2001. Their sound has evolved over time, transitioning from a harder-edged trance style to a more subtle, yet energetic, progressive trance sound, particularly since their third studio album, “Earth Mover.” They have consistently released new music, including 11 artist albums and numerous singles, several of which have accumulated significant streaming figures. Since 2014, they have also hosted a trance podcast called ‘Wake Your Mind Radio’.

The duo has an extensive discography, including studio albums such as “Rhythm & Drums” (2001), “No More Sleep” (2002), “Sign of the Times” (2009), “Wake Your Mind” (2011), “Start to Feel” (2014), “Materia Chapter.One” (2017), “Materia Chapter.Two” (2017), “20 Years [Forward Ever Backward Never]” (2019), “Mosaiik Chapter One” (2021), and “Mosaiik Chapter Two” (2023). Their consistent touring schedule has involved over 1,000 gigs, performing approximately 100 to 130 nights annually at venues like Ministry of Sound, The Guvernment, and Privilege Ibiza, often alongside notable DJs such as Armin Van Buuren, Ferry Corsten, W&W, and Hardwell.

A significant career milestone occurred in 2018 when Nic & Bossi received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical, for their remix of Gabriel & Dresden featuring Sub Teal’s “Only Road” on the Anjunabeats Label. This marked them as the first trance artists to be nominated in this category. Their consistent presence in the DJ Magazine Top 100 DJ Poll illustrates their sustained influence in the electronic music scene, reaching a peak ranking of #19 in 2009.
