Joyce Muniz, born in Brazil, later moved to Vienna in her teenage years, establishing herself in the electronic music scene. She began her career as a DJ and MC at Vienna’s Flex club in the early 2000s, initially focusing on drum & bass. Over time, her work expanded to include vocal performances, touring with artists such as Major Lazer, before shifting her focus to music production. Muniz has released music on various labels, including Exploited, Get Physical, Kompakt, Permanent Vacation, International DJ Gigolo, and Pets. Her debut album, ‘Made in Vienna,’ was released in 2016 on Exploited.
In 2023, Muniz released her second album, ‘Zeitkapsel,’ which translates to ‘time capsule.’ This album featured diverse tracks, including ‘Never Brushing The Sound’ with Le3 bLACK, which drew from trip-hop and downtempo influences, and ‘Bangalore Girl,’ supported by DJ Marky, referencing her drum & bass roots. The album also included ‘Imagine’ with Roland Clark, reflecting her affinity for house music, and ‘Arrivederci Bella,’ an electro-house track where she rapped in Portuguese. In addition to her studio work, Muniz hosts a show on national Austrian radio station FM4 and has served as a workshop host for Native Instruments, sharing her technical expertise. She has performed live with various orchestras in Germany as part of the Synth Live project, being the first woman to participate.
Throughout her career, Muniz has toured internationally, playing across continents. Recent releases include the single “No Haters” on Permanent Vacation with Renato Cohen, and “Beats & Lines” with Sara Bluma on Kompakt, which reached No.1 on Beatport’s Indie Dance Chart. Upcoming releases include the Afro electro single “Mo Dupe” on Exploited in April 2025 and a return to Kompakt in June 2025. She continues to perform weekly in Europe, with frequent visits to America and Brazil, where she was featured on the cover of Mixmag.
