Later that year, the band adopted their current name, Kaiser Chiefs, drawing inspiration from the South African football club. The band’s consistent lineup features lead vocalist Ricky Wilson, guitarist Andrew “Whitey” White, bassist Simon Rix, and keyboardist Nick “Peanut” Baines. Vijay Mistry joined as drummer in 2013, replacing founding member Nick Hodgson.
Their debut album, “Employment”, released in 2005, achieved significant commercial and critical success, selling over three million copies. This album earned them three Brit Awards, including Best British Group, and an NME Award for Best Album, also being shortlisted for the Mercury Prize. Key singles from this period include “Oh My God” and “I Predict a Riot”. The band continued their success with their second album, “Yours Truly, Angry Mob” (2007), which featured their first UK number one single, “Ruby”. This album was certified platinum and included other Top 20 singles such as “The Angry Mob” and “Everything Is Average Nowadays”.
Kaiser Chiefs have maintained a consistent release schedule, with subsequent albums like “Off with Their Heads” (2008), “The Future Is Medieval” (2011), “Education, Education, Education & War” (2014), “Stay Together” (2016), “Duck” (2019), and “Kaiser Chiefs’ Easy Eighth Album” (2024).
