Lily Rose Beatrice Allen was born on May 2, 1985, in Hammersmith, London, to actor Keith Allen and film producer Alison Owen. Her early life involved attending 13 different schools, from which she was expelled multiple times for behavioral issues. Her musical journey began in 2005 when she uploaded vocal recordings to MySpace, gaining significant online traction. This led to airplay on BBC Radio 1 and a contract with Regal Recordings. In 2006, her debut single, “Smile,” reached number one on the UK Singles Chart. Her first album, “Alright, Still,” released in 2006, was well-received, selling over 2.6 million copies globally and earning her nominations at the Grammy Awards, Brit Awards, and MTV Video Music Awards.
Allen’s second album, “It’s Not Me, It’s You” (2009), debuted at the top of the UK Albums Chart and Australian ARIA Charts, featuring hit singles like “The Fear,” “Not Fair,” and “Fuck You.” This success earned her a Brit Award for British Female Solo Artist in 2010. She also ventured into television, hosting “Lily Allen and Friends” on BBC Three in 2008. After a musical hiatus, she released “Sheezus” in 2014, which also topped the UK Albums Chart. Her fourth album, “No Shame” (2018), peaked at number eight and was nominated for a Mercury Prize. The album featured confessional lyrics about her personal experiences, including the breakdown of her marriage and substance abuse.
Beyond music, Allen has engaged in various projects, including authoring her memoir “My Thoughts Exactly” in 2018. In 2021, she made her West End debut in the play “2:22 A Ghost Story,” earning a Laurence Olivier Award nomination for Best Actress and winning a WhatsOnStage Award. She continued her stage career with a role in “The Pillowman” in 2023 and is set to star in “Hedda” in 2025. Her acting credits also include film and television roles like “How to Build a Girl” (2019) and the TV series “Dreamland” (2023). Allen has also launched her own record labels, In the Name Of (2011) and Bank Holiday Records (2016), and engaged in brand partnerships across various industries.
