Tom Shorterz

Tom Shorterz initially established himself in the Birmingham dance music underground, beginning as a Speed Garage and House DJ and producer around 2003-2004 during the bassline boom. Over the past decade, he has maintained a consistent presence in the scene, rising to become a notable figure in UK house and bass music. His early career involved developing a unique sound and performing regularly, which allowed him to build a strong foundation and gain recognition for his adventurous yet danceable DJ sets. He is also recognized as the co-founder of Birmingham’s afterparty series, 02:31, and hosts a weekly radio show on Rinse FM, demonstrating his commitment to the genre beyond performances.

Shorterz’s career progressed with significant milestones, including the release of his track ‘Don’t Stop’ on Lobster Boy Records in January 2017, which showcased his ability to blend Bass and House music. This release, along with its B-side ‘Space Music’, received positive attention from industry figures such as Annie Mac and Redlight. Concurrent with this release, he launched the Lobster Boy Mixtape, which served as a reflection of his DJ identity, incorporating a mix of energetic tracks and hidden gems. His skills as a DJ were further highlighted by his debut Quests Mix on Annie Nightingale’s Radio 1 show, solidifying his reputation as a sought-after artist. He also secured a spot on the My Nu Leng UK Tour and performed at the iconic Fabric venue, indicating his growing presence and influence within the electronic music community.

His discography includes various releases on labels such as Ecko Records, Low Frequency, and Bass Machine. Notable EPs and singles include “Hip Hoppin / Bad Habit” (2005), “Do You Feel Me / One In A Million” (2005), “Fucked Up Friday Funk” (2005), and “Paranoid Pete EP” (2006). He also released “The Retro Dubz EP (Bring Back The 90’s)” (2006) and “The Shorterz E.P” (2007) on Ecko Records. His collaborative work, such as “Untitled” with Emalkey (2005), and digital releases like “Lickrish Boot / Roobarb & Custard” (2008) and “Original G” (2009), further illustrate his consistent production output. Shorterz continues to be active, with a recent DJ set in Japan in 2025.
