Tyree Cooper, a Chicago native, left high school in 1983, declining a basketball scholarship to pursue a career in music production and DJing. His entry into the burgeoning house music scene began with his debut release, “I Fear the Night,” in 1986 on DJ International Records. This was followed by “Acid Over” in 1987, which became a significant track within the acid house genre, solidifying his early contributions to electronic music.
In 1988, Tyree Cooper collaborated with rapper Kool Rock Steady to release “Turn Up The Bass.” This track achieved commercial success, peaking at No. 12 on the UK Singles Chart in 1989. This particular release was instrumental in co-creating the hip house subgenre, broadening the appeal of house music globally. His first album, “Tyree’s Got a Brand New House,” was released in 1988 by DJ International Records, showcasing his early production work. He continued to release music, including “Nation of Hip House” in 1989 via CBS and “The Time Iz Now!” in 1991, further establishing his presence in the house music landscape.
Throughout his career, Tyree Cooper has consistently engaged with the evolution of electronic music.
