Tyree Cooper has been at the heart of the global house scene since day one. The American has been singlehandedly credited with fomenting his own hip hop indebted style of house music that widened the appeal of the genre and made him an almost household name. Hailing from Chicago, Tyree got into music thanks to his parents’ record collection and soon became one of the most in demand DJs in all of Chicago. Soon after came his first demo record and the rest is history.
Signing with the legendary DJ International Records his first big release was ‘I Fear The Night’ with Chic’s female vocalist and it soon became a hit in the underground. ‘Turn Up The Bass’, ‘Let the Music Take Control’, ‘Video Crash’ and ‘Acid Crash’, ‘Acid Over’ and many more all followed and kept him right at the top of the pile of house producers all throughout the late eighties and early nineties.
More recently Tyree has worked with Bobby Starr as Jack the Box and put out an album on Moodmusic as well as many remixes. Now the boss of his own label, Chicago Vinyl Records, he works with lots of hot talents and continues to evolve with each new release. As a DJ he continues to amaze and plays all over the world from Paris to Glastonbury, San Francisco to the legendary Tresor in Berlin. Few DJs have made the lasting contribution to house music as this man, and still he continues to lead from the front.
