Jason Jamal Jackson, known professionally as 03 Greedo, was born on July 26, 1987, in Los Angeles, California. He began his career under the alias Greedy Giddy, self-producing six mixtapes including the ‘Bipolar’ series, ‘Everybody Weak,’ and ‘Money, Powder, Regrets.’ His early musical style was shaped by Southern hip hop artists such as Lil Boosie, Jeezy, and Gucci Mane, as well as Phil Collins. In 2016, Jackson rebranded himself as 03 Greedo and independently produced two mixtapes, ‘Purple Summer’ and ‘Purple Summer 2: Sun Don’t Shine.’ During this period, he also established his own record label, Golden Grenade Empire, demonstrating his entrepreneurial drive within the music industry. In 2017, he released three additional mixtapes: ‘Purple Summer 03: Purple Hearted Soldier,’ ‘First Night Out,’ and ‘Money Changes Everything.’
A significant turning point in 03 Greedo’s career occurred in 2017 when he signed a multi-million dollar contract with Todd Moscowitz’s Alamo Records. His debut release on the label was ‘The Wolf of Grape Street’ in March 2018. The day before beginning a 20-year prison sentence in June 2018, Jackson released his debut studio album, ‘God Level,’ showcasing his commitment to his craft despite impending incarceration. During his time in prison, his team continued to release music from a vault of over 3,000 songs he had recorded prior to his sentence. Notably, he collaborated with Travis Barker on the EP ‘Meet the Drummers’ in 2019 and with Kenny Beats for the album ‘Netflix & Deal’ in the same year. After receiving parole, 03 Greedo was released from prison on January 12, 2023. He quickly returned to music, releasing his fifth studio album, ‘Halfway There,’ just seven days after his release, which featured the single “Bacc Like I Never Left.
