Arctic Monkeys

Arctic Monkeys, an English rock band, formed in Sheffield in 2002. The initial lineup included Alex Turner (lead vocals, guitar), Matt Helders (drums), Andy Nicholson (bass), and Jamie Cook (guitar). The band gained early public attention through online distribution of their demos by fans, a method that largely bypassed traditional music industry promotion. In 2005, they released the EP “Five Minutes with Arctic Monkeys” on their independent label. This was followed by a record deal with Domino in June 2005. Their debut single, “I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor,” released on October 17, 2005, reached number one on the UK singles chart.

Their debut album, “Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not” (2006), became the fastest-selling debut album in British chart history at the time, selling 363,735 copies in its first week. The album received Best British Album at the 2007 Brit Awards. Following this, original bassist Andy Nicholson departed in 2006 and was replaced by Nick O’Malley. The band’s second album, “Favourite Worst Nightmare” (2007), also achieved critical acclaim and a number one position on the UK album charts, and it received Best British Album at the 2008 Brit Awards. Subsequent albums, “Humbug” (2009) and “Suck It and See” (2011), continued to demonstrate their musical evolution and chart success.

The band achieved broader international recognition with their fifth album, “AM” (2013), featuring the global hit “Do I Wanna Know?”. “AM” topped four Billboard charts and was certified 4x Platinum in the US. It also won British Album of the Year at the 2014 Brit Awards, making it their third album to do so. Their sixth album, “Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino” (2018), showcased a piano-oriented shift in sound and received nominations for the Mercury Prize and a Grammy. Their seventh album, “The Car” (2022), garnered further Mercury Prize and Grammy nominations, continuing their consistent critical and commercial performance.
