About

Brand New was formed in 2000 in Merrick, New York, by Jesse Lacey (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Vincent Accardi (lead guitar, vocals), Garrett Tierney (bass guitar, backing vocals), and Brian Lane (drums, percussion). The band gained early exposure within the local Long Island independent and hardcore music scenes, performing alongside contemporary groups such as Midtown and Glassjaw. Their debut studio album, “Your Favorite Weapon,” released in 2001, established their initial pop-punk sound and garnered positive reviews. The band’s methodical approach to songwriting and touring, including appearances at major festivals like Download Festival in 2003, contributed to a growing fan base and recognition.

The band’s second album, “Deja Entendu,” released in 2003, marked a significant shift towards indie rock influences and received widespread critical acclaim. This album’s success led to a notable bidding war among record labels, eventually resulting in their signing with DreamWorks Records, which later transitioned to Interscope Records. “Deja Entendu” was certified Gold in the United States, and its singles “The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows” and “Sic Transit Gloria… Glory Fades” gained considerable airplay, including on MTV and Fuse, and charted in the UK Singles Chart. The band continued to evolve its sound with “The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me” (2006), which was also certified Gold in the US and featured their biggest hit, “Jesus Christ,” peaking at number 30 on Billboard’s Alternative Songs chart. This period saw them touring extensively and performing on national television shows like “Late Night with Conan O’Brien” and “Late Show with David Letterman.”

In 2008, Brand New established their own record label, Procrastinate! Music Traitors, and released “Daisy” in 2009, which debuted at number six on the Billboard 200. Following years of touring and the release of singles like “Mene” (2015) and “I Am a Nightmare” (2016), their fifth album, “Science Fiction,” was surprise-released in 2017. “Science Fiction” debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, achieving both critical and commercial success. Despite announcing plans for a hiatus and facing allegations in 2017, the band reunited in 2024 for a charity show and announced a US tour for 2025, demonstrating their continued presence in the music landscape.
