Brand New, an American rock band, has evolved from Long Island origins to achieve critical acclaim and commercial success, marked by innovative musical turns and significant industry milestones. After releasing their critically acclaimed debut studio album, Your Favorite Weapon, in 2001, Brand New quickly established a distinctive sound within the independent music scene, building a growing fan base through methodical songwriting and extensive touring, including a performance at the 2003 Download Festival. Their second album, Deja Entendu, released in 2003, marked a significant shift towards indie rock influences. Its commercial success led to a notable bidding war, culminating in their signing with DreamWorks Records, which later transitioned to Interscope Records in 2004.
In 2011, Brand New reissued Your Favorite Weapon with new artwork and bonus tracks. The band maintained a strong touring presence, co-headlining with Modest Mouse at Forest Hills Stadium in 2014, performing at major festivals including Coachella, Lollapalooza Berlin, and Austin City Limits in 2015. During this time, they released singles ‘Mene’ (2015) and ‘I Am a Nightmare’ (2016), alongside Leaked Demos 2006 (2015) and the EP 3 Demos, Reworked (2016). In 2016, they co-headlined a successful US tour with Modest Mouse, which included a stop at Madison Square Garden, and supported Biffy Clyro on their UK arena tour.
Their fifth album, Science Fiction, was surprise-released in 2017, debuting at number one on the Billboard 200 with critical and commercial success. After a period of hiatus, Brand New reunited in 2024 for a private charity event. Building on this return, the band announced a 24-date US tour for 2025, marking their continued presence in the music landscape.
