About

Samuel Timothy McGraw was born on May 1, 1967, in Delhi, Louisiana. He grew up believing his stepfather was his father until the age of 11, when he discovered his biological father was famed professional baseball pitcher Tug McGraw. He attended Northeast Louisiana University on a baseball scholarship, majoring in pre-law. A knee injury ended his aspirations for a professional sports career. In 1989, McGraw left college and moved to Nashville to pursue music. He secured a recording contract with Curb Records in 1990.

McGraw’s debut album, ‘Tim McGraw’, was released in April 1993 but initially saw limited commercial success. His second album, ‘Not a Moment Too Soon’, released in 1994, became the best-selling country album of that year, featuring his first number-one single, “Don’t Take the Girl.” This success led to Academy of Country Music awards for Album of the Year and Top New Male Vocalist. Subsequent albums like ‘All I Want’ (1995) and ‘Everywhere’ (1997) continued his chart dominance, with ‘Everywhere’ earning the CMA Album of the Year award. Milestones in his music career include 46 worldwide No. 1 singles and 19 worldwide No. 1 albums, with over 90 million records sold globally. He has won 3 Grammy Awards, 21 Academy of Country Music Awards, and 14 Country Music Association Awards. In 2000, he embarked on the highly successful “Soul2Soul Tour” with his wife, Faith Hill.

Beyond music, McGraw has built a significant acting portfolio. He debuted in a 1997 episode of ‘The Jeff Foxworthy Show’. His film career includes notable roles in ‘Friday Night Lights’ (2004), ‘The Blind Side’ (2009), ‘Flicka’ (2006), and ‘Tomorrowland’ (2015). In television, he co-starred with Faith Hill and Sam Elliott in the Yellowstone prequel ‘1883’ (2021-2022). McGraw has also co-authored two New York Times Best Selling books, ‘Songs of America: Patriotism, Protest and the Music that Made a Nation’ and the fitness book ‘Grit & Grace: Train the Mind, Train the Body, Own Your Life’. His recent music releases include the album ‘Standing Room Only’ (2023) and the EP ‘Poet’s Resumé’ (2023).
