Chayce Beckham was born on July 16, 1996, in Victorville, California. He spent his early life across Victorville, Hesperia, and Apple Valley, California, attending Carmel Elementary School, Vanguard Preparatory School, Sitting Bull Academy, Glendora High School, and Whitcomb High School, from which he graduated in 2014. Before his music career breakthrough, Beckham worked as a heavy machinery operator. At 19 or 20, he formed a reggae band called the Sinking Sailors. In late 2020, he survived a near-fatal car accident, an event that preceded his audition for American Idol.
In 2021, Chayce Beckham auditioned for the nineteenth season of American Idol in Los Angeles, California. He progressed through Hollywood Week and into the Top 5, ultimately winning the competition on May 23, 2021, beating runner-up Willie Spence. His victory was notable as he was the first American Idol winner to achieve this distinction with an original song, “23,” which he had written a year prior. The song quickly topped the iTunes chart following his performance on the show and later earned RIAA Platinum certification, Australian 2x Platinum, and Canadian Platinum certifications. “23” has accumulated over 238 million on-demand streams.
Following his American Idol win, Beckham signed with BMG/19/Wheelhouse Records. In April 2022, he released his six-track debut EP, “Doin’ It Right,” which reached No. 1 on both the iTunes All Genre and Country charts. He continued to release new music, including “Keeping Me Up All Night” and “Till The Day I Die,” released on April 28, 2023. These releases showcase his consistent songwriting and raspy, blues-rock vocal style, which has been described by Katy Perry as sounding like the “heart of America.” Beckham has performed at significant events such as CMA Fest and joined Luke Bryan’s 2023 Country On Tour, starting June 15.
