Christina Judith Perri was born on August 19, 1986, in Bensalem, Pennsylvania. She began her musical journey by teaching herself guitar at 16, drawing inspiration from a VH1 performance by Shannon Hoon. After attending the University of the Arts for a year, she pursued music professionally, moving to Los Angeles. Following an 18-month marriage and subsequent divorce, she dedicated herself to her musical aspirations, returning to Philadelphia briefly before moving back to Los Angeles and working as a waitress while recording music at night.
Perri’s breakthrough occurred in 2010 when her song “Jar of Hearts” was featured on the television series *So You Think You Can Dance*. This exposure led to significant digital sales, prompting her to sign with Atlantic Records. She released her debut EP, *The Ocean Way Sessions*, in 2010, followed by her debut studio album, *Lovestrong*, in 2011, which debuted at number 4 on the Billboard 200 and was later certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. A notable achievement came with “A Thousand Years,” the love theme for *The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2*, released in 2012, which sold over 10 million copies in the United States and achieved Diamond certification. This song’s official music video accumulated two billion views on YouTube by December 2021.
Her career continued with the release of *A Very Merry Perri Christmas* in 2012 and her second studio album, *Head or Heart*, in 2014. Perri also ventured into children’s music with lullaby albums, *Songs for Carmella* (2019) and *Songs for Rosie* (2021), dedicated to her daughters. In 2022, she released her third pop album, *A Lighter Shade of Blue*, further demonstrating her versatility. She has toured globally, headlining the Lovestrong Tour and the Head or Heart Tour, and also opened for artists like Jason Mraz and Demi Lovato.
