Dameer Khan

Dameer Khan was born in Dhaka, Bangladesh, on September 18, 2000, and spent his early years there. Raised in a musical family, with his father Pilu Khan being a member of the renowned Bangladeshi band Renaissance, Dameer began guitar classes at a young age, around nine or ten. He further developed his musical skills with guitar and drum lessons at his father’s music college in Baridhara. His introduction to playing music began with finding a travel guitar in a charity shop during a trip to England. As a teenager, Dameer relocated to Malaysia for four years and later spent several months in Ghana, experiences that broadened his musical perspective and cultural understanding.

Dameer’s career progression saw him signing with the German record label Majestic Casual at the age of 17. Under this label, he released his debut single, “Easier,” in 2018, accompanied by a music video. His first EP, “For We Are Distant,” was released in 2021 and received a four-star review from NME, which praised it for being “vulnerable and open.” Following this, Dameer transitioned to an independent artist, a move enabling him to build his own team. His first independently released single, “Bashbo Bhalo,” in 2022, was notably his first song fully in Bangla and featured his father in its music video. Dameer’s music, often blending lo-fi tunes with psychedelic riffs, has been featured on radio segments for the BBC Asian Network. He is currently pursuing studies in economics and political science at McGill University in Montreal.

Throughout his journey, Dameer has been committed to absorbing diverse artistic cultures, from Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Cambodian, Indonesian, and Sri Lankan music during his time in Malaysia, to traditional folk guitarists from Mali, desert rock from Niger, and Afrobeat pioneers like Tony Allen and Fela Kuti from his time in Ghana. This extensive exposure has enriched his craft. His discography includes earlier works like “Bichhuz” (2020), “Moshari” (2022), and “Westerners” (2024), demonstrating his consistent output and creative evolution. Dameer’s music consistently reflects his diverse experiences and influences, establishing him as a distinctive voice in the contemporary music landscape.
