Formed and fronted by Chris Daughtry, a finalist on the fifth season of American Idol in 2006, the band Daughtry quickly rose to prominence. Their self-titled debut album, released in November 2006, reached number one on the Billboard 200. This album went on to sell over six million copies in the United States, earning six-times platinum certification from the RIAA, and was recognized as the best-selling album of 2007 by Billboard. It also became the fastest-selling debut rock album in Nielsen SoundScan history. The album featured four top 20 hits on the Billboard Hot 100, including “It’s Not Over” and “Home.”
The band’s second album, “Leave This Town,” released in July 2009, also debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, making Daughtry the first American Idol artist to have two consecutive number-one albums. This album sold over 1.3 million copies in the U.S. and was certified platinum by the RIAA. Subsequent album releases include “Break the Spell” (2011), which was certified Gold; “Baptized” (2013), which debuted at number six; “Cage to Rattle” (2018); and “Dearly Beloved” (2021). The band has collaborated with various artists such as Slash, Timbaland, Vince Gill, and Carlos Santana.
Over the course of their career, Daughtry has sold over 9 million albums and 25.6 million digital tracks in the U.S. In 2019, Chris Daughtry was revealed as the “Rottweiler” on the second season of The Masked Singer, finishing as the runner-up. Following a departure from RCA Records, citing a desire for more rock-focused music, the band signed with Big Machine Records in August 2023. Their single “Artificial” from this new partnership reached number one on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Airplay chart in February 2024. Daughtry continues to evolve its sound, with upcoming EPs “Shock to the System (Part One)” and “Shock to the System (Part Two)” scheduled for release in late 2024 and 2025, respectively.
