Dave Davies is an English guitarist and songwriter, best known as the lead guitarist and backing vocalist for the influential rock band The Kinks, and for his pioneering use of electric guitar distortion. After pioneering a revolutionary electric guitar technique that laid foundational groundwork for genres such as heavy metal and punk rock, Dave Davies went on to co-found the influential rock band The Kinks in 1963. Demonstrating his innovative approach, Davies famously used a razor blade to slice the speaker cone of his Elpico amplifier in 1964, creating the distinctive distorted sound heard on ‘You Really Got Me.’ This groundbreaking application of distortion became one of its first widespread uses in mainstream music. ‘You Really Got Me’ quickly ascended the charts, becoming a chart-topping hit in the UK and reaching number 7 in the US, firmly establishing The Kinks’ iconic sound.

Davies continued his prolific output with the release of his solo album ‘Open Road’ in 2017. His ongoing artistic endeavors underscore his enduring impact and continued relevance in the music industry.
