Dev, born Devin Star Tailes, has carved out a career as a singer, rapper, and songwriter, recognized for her distinct electro-pop sound and collaborations that have topped international charts.
Dev was discovered by and signed with the record label Indie-Pop, an independent label that played a crucial role in her early career, initially finding her through Myspace.
The Cataracs, a production duo, discovered Dev via Myspace. They were a key part of her early career, producing much of her music, including 'Booty Bounce' which was sampled in 'Like a G6'. They also collaborated on her debut album.
Dev collaborated with Far East Movement on their hit single 'Like a G6' in 2010. A verse from Dev's 'Booty Bounce' was sampled for the chorus, contributing to the song's number one success on the US Billboard Hot 100.
After Universal Republic went defunct in 2013, Dev, along with other artists from the label, moved to Republic Records, continuing her association with a major music group.
In 2014, Dev launched her own label, Rica Lyfe Records, for independent music releases. This move signified her intention to manage her own artistic output.
Dev collaborated with NanosauR for her 2014 EP 'Not All Love Songs Have to Be So Sad', demonstrating her willingness to work with other artists and producers outside of major labels.

Devin Star Tailes was born on July 2, 1989, in Tracy, California. She spent her early years in Manteca, California, where she pursued swimming, band, and choir during her high school years at Sierra High School, graduating in 2007. Later, while attending San Joaquin Delta College, studying English and art history, a cover song she posted on MySpace drew the attention of the production duo The Cataracs. This encounter marked a pivotal moment, leading her to sign with Indie-Pop, a Los Angeles-based record label and management team also affiliated with The Cataracs. She subsequently left college to fully dedicate herself to her music career.
Her career gained significant momentum in 2010 when a verse from her track “Booty Bounce” was sampled in Far East Movement’s hit single “Like a G6.” This collaboration reached number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and sold over four million downloads in the country. Following this success, Dev signed with Universal Republic in October 2010. Her debut single, “Bass Down Low,” released in November 2010, achieved commercial success, peaking at number ten in the UK. This was followed by “In the Dark” in 2011, which reached number 11 on the US Billboard Hot 100, becoming her most successful solo single. Her debut album, “The Night the Sun Came Up,” was released in 2011.
In 2014, Dev transitioned to releasing music independently, launching her own label, Rica Lyfe Records. She released two EPs, “Bittersweet July” and “Bittersweet July, Pt. 2.” In 2016, she signed with Barry Weiss’ RECORDS label, releasing the single “#1” which charted on Billboard’s Rhythmic Songs. Her second studio album, “I Only See You When I’m Dreamin’,” was released in 2017. Beyond her music, Dev has also been a radio host for Apple Inc.’s Beats 1 radio station, showcasing her diverse involvement in the music industry.
