Dev, born Devin Star Tailes, has carved out a career as a singer, rapper, and songwriter, recognized for her distinct electro-pop sound and collaborations that have topped international charts. After a cover song posted on MySpace drew the attention of production duo The Cataracs in 2009, Dev signed with Indie-Pop, a Los Angeles-based record label and management team. Her career gained significant momentum in 2010 when a verse from her track ‘Booty Bounce’ was sampled in Far East Movement’s hit single ‘Like a G6.’ This collaboration reached number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and sold over four million downloads in the country. Following this success, Dev signed with Universal Republic in October 2010.
In 2013, Universal Republic artists, including Dev, transitioned to Republic Records, continuing her association with one of the industry’s leading labels. In 2014, Dev expanded her entrepreneurial reach by establishing her own label, Rica Lyfe Records, through which she independently released two EPs: ‘Bittersweet July’ and ‘Bittersweet July, Pt. 2.’ Demonstrating her versatile involvement in the music industry, she also served as a radio host for Apple Inc.’s Beats 1 radio station in 2015. Further expanding her label affiliations, Dev signed with Barry Weiss’ RECORDS label in August 2016, leading to the release of the single ‘#1’ (featuring Nef the Pharaoh) that same year, which charted in the top 15 on Billboard’s Rhythmic Songs chart.
Her second studio album, ‘I Only See You When I’m Dreamin’,’ was subsequently released in 2017. Most recently, Dev returned to the live performance circuit, taking the stage at the Hard music festival in July 2022. She also made a notable appearance at the renowned Lollapalooza festival in July 2022, continuing to engage her fanbase with dynamic performances.
