Donald Lawrence is a Grammy Award-winning gospel music songwriter, record producer, and artist known for his significant contributions to contemporary gospel music. After his debut album with The Tri-City Singers, ‘A Songwriter’s Point Of View,’ reached No. 2 on the Billboard Top Gospel Charts in 1993, Grammy Award-winning artist, songwriter, and producer Donald Lawrence established himself as a dominant force in contemporary gospel music. Their 1995 follow-up, ‘Bible Stories,’ topped the Billboard Top Gospel Charts, becoming the first billed as Donald Lawrence & The Tri-City Singers, released on Lawrence’s Crystal Rose Records, distributed via Sparrow Records.
Lawrence, holding a BFA in music from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM), also served as vocal coach for R&B group En Vogue and musical director for Stephanie Mills, building a diverse musical foundation. In 1997, Lawrence produced Karen Clark Sheard’s Grammy-nominated debut, ‘Finally Karen,’ and released ‘Hello Christmas’ with The Tri-City Singers. Signing with EMI Gospel in 2000, he released ‘tri-city4.com,’ which peaked at No. 2 on Billboard’s Top Gospel Charts, while his single ‘Testify’ reached No.
‘Goshen’ also secured 5 Stellar Awards, including Song Of The Year for ‘Deliver Me. This Is My Exodus.’ In 2020, Lawrence’s enduring influence was recognized with his induction into the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame. Most recently, in 2023, he released ‘Donald Lawrence Presents Power: A Tribute to Twinkie Clark,’ continuing his legacy of impactful productions and collaborations within gospel music.
