Drivin N Cryin is an American Southern rock band known for its eclectic sound and consistent touring since 1985. After forming in 1985 and quickly gaining recognition in Atlanta’s club scene, Drivin N Cryin signed with 688 Records in 1986 to release their debut album, ‘Scarred But Smarter.’ The band, co-founded by Kevn Kinney and Tim Nielsen, then secured a deal with Island Records in 1987. With Jeff Sullivan joining as drummer and Buren Fowler officially joining as guitarist in 1988, Drivin N Cryin released their major-label debut, ‘Whisper Tames the Lion.’ The 1988 album reached No. 130 on the Billboard 200, achieving significant college radio success with tracks including ‘Can’t Promise You The World’ and ‘Powerhouse.’ Drivin N Cryin continued their ascent with ‘Mystery Road’ in 1989, featuring live staples ‘From the Word Go’ (a.k.a ‘Honeysuckle Blue’) and ‘Straight To Hell.’ Their 1991 album, ‘Fly Me Courageous,’ became their most commercially successful, earning a coveted gold certification.
The band was also the subject of the documentary ‘Scarred but Smarter: Life n Times of Drivin N Cryin,’ produced in 2012. In 2015, Drivin N Cryin was inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame, solidifying their legacy in American music. The band continued to release new material, including the album ‘Too Late to Turn Back Now!’ in 2018 and ‘Live the Love Beautiful’ in 2019. Known for their eclectic sound and consistent touring across decades, Drivin N Cryin remains an active and influential force in Southern rock.
