EarthGang

EarthGang, the American hip hop duo from Atlanta, Georgia, was formed in 2008 by Olu (also known as Johnny Venus) and WowGr8 (also known as Doctur Dot). The duo met during high school at Benjamin Elijah Mays High School and shared a common interest in music. They developed a unique sound that blends hip hop with elements of soul and funk. Their early releases include the EP “The Better Party” in 2010, followed by mixtapes “Mad Men” and “Good News” in 2011. These initial projects laid the groundwork for their distinctive style, characterized by playful delivery and lyrical depth. In 2013, their debut album “Shallow Graves For Toys” garnered critical acclaim.

After initially self-releasing their music and touring extensively, including performances at the A3C Festival and opening for acts like Ab-Soul, EarthGang signed with J. Cole’s Dreamville Records in 2017. This marked a significant turning point in their career, leading to the release of a trilogy of EPs: “Rags,” “Robots” (2017), and “Royalty” (2018). These EPs built anticipation for their major label debut album, “Mirrorland,” released in 2019. The album featured collaborations with prominent artists such as Young Thug, T-Pain, and Kehlani, further establishing their presence in the hip hop scene.

EarthGang has continued to evolve their sound and collaborate with a diverse range of artists. They are co-founders of the musical collective Spillage Village, which has released several collaborative albums, including “Spilligion” in 2020. Their most recent album, “Ghetto Gods,” was released in 2022 and featured artists like Future, J. Cole, and Musiq Soulchild. The duo has also embarked on several headlining and supporting tours, including the ‘Never Had Shit Tour’, ‘What On Earth Tour’, and supporting tours for J. Cole and Gorillaz, solidifying their reputation for energetic live performances. Their commitment to authenticity and diverse musical influences has earned them two Grammy Award nominations.
