Ida Corr was born on March 14, 1977, in Århus, Denmark, to a Danish mother and a Gambian musician father. Her musical journey began at a young age, drumming at six and forming a band by nine, performing soul classics. At 14, she won the first Danish Children Songcontest (Børne Melodi Grand Prix), marking an early milestone in her career. As a young adult, she gained experience singing background vocals for notable Danish artists such as Gnags, Sanne Salomonsen, Thomas Helmig, and Rasmus Nøhr, refining her vocal skills and stage presence.
Corr’s career gained public recognition in 2002 as a member of the Danish girl group Sha Li Mar, which released a self-titled album and performed on the prime-time television show ‘Venner for livet.’ Following the group’s disbandment, she transitioned to a solo career, collaborating with house producer Morten Trust in 2004 on “I Put My Faith in You,” a moderately successful dance track. This collaboration led to a solo recording contract with Kick Music, under which she released her debut album, ‘Streetdiva,’ in 2005, and ‘Robosoul’ in 2006.
Her international breakthrough arrived in 2007 with the release of “Let Me Think About It,” a collaboration with Dutch house producer Fedde le Grand and featuring Danish R&B artist Burhan G. This track became a smash hit across Europe, topping charts in various countries and achieving success in the United States, reaching number 1 on the Billboard Hot Dance Airplay chart. The song’s enduring popularity was highlighted by its 40-week presence on the German Single Charts in 2008. Building on this success, Corr released her eagerly anticipated follow-up single, “Ride My Tempo,” in 2008. In addition to her solo work, Corr was a member of the London-based band SugaRush Beat Company, which performed on ‘Later… with Jools Holland’ in 2008, showcasing her versatility beyond dance-pop.
