Giolanta Kyriakou, known professionally as G Flip, was born and raised in Melbourne, Australia. Their musical journey began at the age of nine when they received their first drum kit. Encouraged by their high school drum teacher, Jenny Morrish, G Flip developed their drumming skills, which led to auditioning for bands. At 19, they successfully joined the band EMPRA as their drummer for two years. This early experience laid the foundation for G Flip’s career in the music industry.
After their time with EMPRA, G Flip transitioned to a solo career, focusing on songwriting and production. In February 2018, they released their debut single, “About You,” which quickly gained international attention, being featured by Pitchfork and on YouTube’s “New Music This Week” playlist. The song, created in their bedroom, marked a turning point in their career. In August 2019, G Flip released their debut album, “About Us,” further establishing their presence in the music scene. Their work has been recognized with awards such as the ARIA Emerging Artist Scholarship in 2018, which provided significant travel support for their tours, and Breakthrough Independent Artist Of The Year at the Australian Independent Record Awards in 2019.
Beyond their musical achievements, G Flip has been open about their personal identity. In June 2021, they publicly announced their non-binary identity and adopted they/them pronouns. This aspect of their life has also influenced their music, notably with the release of “Waste of Space,” a track exploring their experiences with gender identity, particularly on International Non-Binary People’s Day. G Flip’s career also includes high-profile relationships, such as their marriage to Chrishell Stause, which has been featured in their music videos and media coverage, highlighting a blend of their personal and professional life.
