Gabriel Alberto Azucena, known professionally as GAWVI, is a prominent American Christian hip hop artist and music producer who has significantly influenced the genre since his career began in 2008. Initially working under the name G-Styles, he made a name for himself by producing tracks for notable artists such as Lecrae and Trip Lee. His production prowess was recognized when he won a GMA Dove Award for his work on Lecrae’s album “Anomaly,” which was a landmark release, topping both the Billboard 200 and Gospel Albums charts.
In 2016, GAWVI signed with Reach Records, where he expanded his role as both an artist and in-house producer. His debut extended play, “Lost in Hue,” released in July 2016, quickly climbed to the top of the iTunes dance albums chart, showcasing his unique blend of rap, pop, and dance music. Following this success, he released his first studio album, “We Belong,” in March 2017, which received acclaim within the contemporary Christian music community and debuted at No. 19 on iTunes.
GAWVI continued to build on his success with subsequent albums, including “Panorama” in 2018, which featured the award-winning track “Fight for Me” with Lecrae. His third album, “Heathen,” released in 2020, was nominated for a Dove Award, further solidifying his reputation as a leading figure in Christian hip hop. In 2021, he released “Noche Juvenil,” an album featuring Spanish-language tracks that highlighted his versatility as an artist.
After parting ways with Reach Records in early 2022, GAWVI announced his upcoming album “Atmostfear,” set for release in 2023. His journey reflects a commitment to creating music that resonates with diverse audiences while maintaining a positive message, making him a vital voice in the Christian music landscape.
