Taylor Gayle Rutherfurd, known professionally as Gayle, was born on June 10, 2004, in Plano, Texas. Her musical career began at the age of seven, eventually leading her to Nashville, Tennessee, to pursue her aspirations. In 2020, Gayle signed her first record deal with Arthouse Entertainment. Her early dedication and self-produced singles led to her discovery by former American Idol judge and Arthouse music publisher Kara DioGuardi, resulting in a joint signing with Atlantic Records and Arthouse. This marked a significant turning point in her career.
Her major-label debut single, “ABCDEFU,” released in 2021, quickly gained global traction, becoming a viral hit on platforms like TikTok and Spotify. The song achieved widespread international success, reaching number one in the United Kingdom, Ireland, and on the Billboard Global 200, and peaked at number three on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States. This breakthrough earned her a Grammy Award nomination for Song of the Year. Following this success, Gayle released two extended plays in 2022, “A Study of the Human Experience Volume One” and “A Study of the Human Experience Volume Two,” showcasing her songwriting and artistic development. Her compilation album, “A Study of the Human Experience Volume One and Two,” was released in March 2023.
Gayle has continued to build her career through extensive touring and collaborations. In 2023, she released standalone singles such as “Everybody Hates Me” and “Don’t Call Me Pretty.” She was an opening act for the US leg of Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour and the European leg of Pink’s Summer Carnival tour. Her work on the soundtrack for the film “Barbie” with the song “Butterflies” further expanded her reach. In 2024, she embarked on her “My First Time (in Asia) Tour” and released the single “Internet Baby.” Throughout her career, Gayle has been recognized with multiple award nominations including the American Music Awards, MTV Video Music Awards, and Billboard Music Awards.
