Ash Blue Gutierrez, known professionally as Glaive, was born on January 20, 2005, in Florida. His early life included living near Sarasota for nine years before his family moved to Hendersonville, North Carolina. His grandfather, Bennie Gutierrez, was a professional polo player and served as the inspiration for the Polo Ralph Lauren logo. Before embarking on his solo career, Glaive was a member of a band.
Glaive’s musical journey began in early 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, while he was attending high school virtually. He started recording music in his bedroom, drawing his stage name from a weapon in the video game ‘Dark Souls III.’ He uploaded his first song to SoundCloud in April 2020. Through online platforms like Discord, he began collaborating with other hyperpop artists, quickly gaining popularity on SoundCloud. His song ‘Sick’ caught the attention of Dan Awad, his current manager, in the summer of 2020. After consistently appearing on Spotify’s ‘Hyperpop’ playlist, Glaive signed a record deal with Interscope Records. His debut extended play, ‘Cypress Grove,’ was released in November 2020, followed by the collaborative EP ‘Then I’ll Be Happy’ with Ericdoa in October 2021. He also released his second EP, ‘All Dogs Go to Heaven’ in August 2021, and its deluxe edition, ‘Old Dog, New Tricks,’ in January 2022.
In 2022, Glaive embarked on his first headlining tour across North America and later toured Europe. His debut studio album, ‘I Care So Much That I Don’t Care at All,’ was released on July 14, 2023, featuring singles like ‘As If’ and ‘I’m Nothing That’s All I Am.’ He followed this with subsequent North American and European tours. In early 2024, he released the EP ‘A Bit of a Mad One’ and subsequently announced his departure from Interscope Records to become an independent artist. His second studio album, ‘May It Never Falter,’ was released in October 2024, and a third album, ‘Y’all,’ is scheduled for September 2025. Glaive has been recognized for his genre-hopping musical style, which incorporates elements of hyperpop, digicore, pop rap, folk-pop, indie rock, and emo, addressing themes of alienation and mental health in his lyrics.
