Gyakie has emerged as a prominent Afro-fusion artist, recognized for her impactful music and strategic collaborations.
In June 2024, Flip the Music announced that Gyakie had become a co-owner of the label, a move described as both symbolic and strategic.
Gyakie joined RCA/Sony Music International with her label Flip the Music, with the artist stating her excitement to become a global superstar.
Gyakie became the first African woman to partner with Spotify for Equal, an initiative aimed at fostering equity for women in music globally.
Jackline Acheampong, known professionally as Gyakie, was born on December 16, 1999, in Kumasi, Ghana. Her upbringing in a family of musicians, as the daughter of Ghanaian highlife legend Nana Acheampong, exposed her to the music industry from a young age; she began joining her father in the studio by age eight. Gyakie pursued her education at T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School, Kumasi, and later majored in International Business at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). Her musical journey officially began in 2019 with the release of her debut single, “Love Is Pretty,” followed by “Never Like This.”
In August 2020, Gyakie released her five-track EP, _Seed_. The EP featured the song “Forever,” which gained significant airplay and topped music charts in Ghana, Kenya, and Nigeria. “Forever” also reached Billboard’s Top Triller Global and Shazam’s Top 200 charts. A remix of “Forever” featuring Nigerian singer Omah Lay was released in March 2021. Gyakie’s career rapidly progressed with an international record deal signed with Sony Music Entertainment, RCA Records UK, and Sony Music Africa. She was recognized as the Emerging Woman of the Year at the 3Music Women’s Brunch for the 3Music Awards 2021 and later as Woman of the Year at the 3Music Awards 2022. Gyakie was also featured in Grammy’s “Herbal Tea & White Sofas” interview series in June 2022, where she discussed her backstage preferences and emotional connection to performing.
Demonstrating continued artistic development, Gyakie released her second EP, _My Diary_, in July 2022, which included a collaboration with Nigerian musician Davido. Her debut album, _After Midnight_, was released in August 2025, following three years of development that allowed for extensive creative input and collaboration with artists such as 6lack, Headie One, Young Jonn, and Shatta Wale. The album’s intro notably samples her father’s music, reflecting her roots and influences. Gyakie’s career is marked by consistent releases, strategic collaborations, and a growing international presence, positioning her as a significant voice in Afro-fusion music.
