Hot Chelle Rae

Hot Chelle Rae originated in Nashville, Tennessee. The band was formed in 2005 by singer-songwriter Ryan Follese and guitarist Nash Overstreet, initially named Miracle Drug. The lineup expanded with bassist Ian Keaggy and Ryan’s younger brother, Jamie Follese, on drums in 2008. The band’s initial period saw them perform at various venues and music festivals, including South by Southwest. In October 2008, they signed with Jive Records, leading to the release of their debut album, “Lovesick Electric,” in October 2009. This period marked their entry into the mainstream music industry, supported by touring through 2010 and 2011.

The group achieved significant commercial success with their 2011 single, “Tonight Tonight,” which attained double platinum status and reached number 7 on the Billboard Hot 100. Their second single from the “Whatever” album, “I Like It Like That,” featured the hip-hop duo New Boyz and peaked at number 28 on the Billboard Hot 100. Their second studio album, “Whatever,” was released in November 2011, reaching number 48 on the US Billboard 200. This era also included tours with prominent artists such as Taylor Swift during her ‘Speak Now’ Tour in Australia and New Zealand in March 2012, and Demi Lovato in mid-2012. Ian Keaggy departed from the band in October 2013, and the band continued as a trio, releasing the EP “Recklessly” in 2014, including singles like “Hung Up” and “Don’t Say Goodnight.”

After a hiatus during which members pursued individual projects, Hot Chelle Rae reunited. In November 2019, they released “I Hate LA,” their first new music in five years. This was followed by the release of their EP “Tangerine” in April 2020, which featured singles such as “Tonight Tonight,” “Tangerine,” “Stay,” and “Tomorrow Me.” The band’s career demonstrates a progression from an unsigned local act to an internationally recognized pop rock entity with notable charting success and collaborations.
