Jesus Piece

Jesus Piece was a Philadelphia-based metalcore band known for its contributions to the genre and collaborations with other notable acts. After quickly establishing their presence in the hardcore scene with a series of acclaimed early releases, Jesus Piece solidified their standing with a split EP featuring Malice at the Palace, released through Bridge Nine Records in 2017. The Philadelphia-based metalcore band, known for its contributions to the genre, initially introduced its sound with a self-released demo/EP in 2015, followed by another self-released EP in the summer of 2016. Comprising Aaron Heard on vocals, David Updike and John DiStefano on guitars, Anthony Marinaro on bass, and Luis Aponte on drums, their musical style quickly garnered attention.

Post-release, bassist Anthony Marinaro departed from the band in 2023 to pursue personal business ventures. The band maintained a rigorous touring schedule, later joining legendary acts Obituary, Jinjer, and Sepultura for the European leg of Sepultura’s farewell tour in late 2024, performing to large audiences across the continent. On August 26, 2025, a joint statement from band members David Updike, John Distefano, and Luis Aponte confirmed the official cessation of Jesus Piece, noting that ‘Jesus Piece has been dead for some time.’ The statement also clarified that any subsequent activities operating under the name ‘Je$us Piece’ by vocalist Aaron Heard were explicitly not associated with the original band’s decade-long body of work. Heard’s spin-off project, Je$us Piece, was initially slated to perform at the One Big Party Fest in Phoenix, Arizona, in October 2025, though that appearance was later replaced by Show Me the Body.
