Loren Allred was born on September 7, 1989, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to a family of musicians. Her mother, Carol Ann Allred, is a classical soprano and voice teacher, while her father, Brady R. Allred, served as director of the Pittsburgh Bach Choir and artistic director for Salt Lake Choral Artists. Allred pursued musical theater at Weber State University for a year before transferring to Berklee College of Music in Boston. Her early career included uploading videos to YouTube, where she was discovered by Ne-Yo, leading to a record deal with Island Def Jam.
In 2012, Allred became a contestant on season 3 of the American television show “The Voice,” where she joined Adam Levine’s team. She advanced through the battle and knockout rounds before being eliminated after the first week of live playoffs, tying for 13th place. A significant turning point in her career came in 2014 when she worked as a playback singer for a film musical by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. This led to her selection as the singing voice for Rebecca Ferguson’s character, Jenny Lind, in “The Greatest Showman.” Her performance of “Never Enough” on the film’s soundtrack contributed to the album becoming the best-selling of 2018, with the song achieving platinum status in the U.S., UK, and Canada, and reaching number 88 on the Billboard Hot 100 in January 2018.
Allred’s profile continued to rise through collaborations and further television appearances. In 2019, she was featured on Michael Bublé’s “Love” album for a duet. She also participated in Andrea Bocelli’s 2021 USA Tour, performing alongside him. In 2022, Allred appeared on the 15th series of “Britain’s Got Talent,” performing “Never Enough” and receiving a Golden Buzzer from judge Amanda Holden, which sent her directly to the semifinals. She reached the final, placing ninth. In 2023, she contributed to “World of Color – One” at Disneyland with the original song “Start a Wave” and returned to Europe to perform with Andrea Bocelli and David Foster. The same year, she was announced as the performer for the theme song “No Promises to Keep” for “Final Fantasy VII Rebirth” at The Game Awards 2023. In January 2024, she competed on “America’s Got Talent: Fantasy League” at the invitation of Simon Cowell, performing “Never Enough” and “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” before being eliminated in the semi-finals.
