Leon Bridges

Todd Michael “Leon” Bridges was born on July 13, 1989, in Atlanta, Georgia, and raised in Fort Worth, Texas. His musical journey began by learning guitar chords to accompany his lyrics. During his employment at Del Frisco’s Grille in Fort Worth, Bridges performed at various open mic nights. A pivotal moment in his early career was the composition of “Lisa Sawyer,” a song dedicated to his mother, which helped define his unique musical style. His performances eventually led to his discovery by guitarist Austin Jenkins and Joshua Block of White Denim.

Bridges’ breakthrough came in late 2014 when he released two demo songs on SoundCloud, notably “Coming Home.” This track quickly gained local radio airplay on stations like KKXT and attracted significant attention from numerous record labels. In December 2014, Bridges signed with Columbia Records. His debut studio album, “Coming Home,” was released in 2015, achieving platinum certification by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and peaking at number six on the Billboard 200. The album also earned a nomination for Best R&B Album at the 58th Annual Grammy Awards.

Following his debut, Bridges continued to build a distinguished career. His subsequent albums, “Good Thing” (2018) and “Gold-Diggers Sound” (2021), also received Grammy nominations for Best R&B Album, with “Good Thing” reaching number three on the Billboard chart. In 2018, his single “Bet Ain’t Worth The Hand” won the Grammy Award for Best Traditional R&B Performance at the 61st Annual Grammy Awards. Bridges has expanded his musical endeavors through notable collaborations with artists like Khruangbin, resulting in successful EPs “Texas Sun” (2020) and “Texas Moon” (2022). His career progression highlights his consistent artistic development and critical acclaim within the music industry.
