Mark Stoermer is a musician and songwriter known for his foundational bass work with The Killers, his solo career, and collaborations with other prominent rock acts. After joining The Killers as permanent bassist in September 2002, Mark Stoermer quickly established himself as a foundational talent whose distinctive bass work would contribute to the band’s global success. His tenure saw The Killers record six studio albums, all of which achieved number one status on the United Kingdom Albums Chart, including their 2004 debut, ‘Hot Fuss.’ Throughout his career with the band, Stoermer’s contributions were integral to The Killers earning seven GRAMMY Award nominations and seven BRIT Award nominations, solidifying their status as one of rock’s premier acts. Expanding his creative output, Stoermer released his debut solo album, ‘Another Life,’ in 2011.
In May 2016, Stoermer began a partial hiatus from touring with The Killers to focus on his solo endeavors and educational pursuits, though he continued to contribute to their studio albums and make occasional live appearances. This period saw the release of his subsequent solo albums, ‘Dark Arts’ (2016) and ‘Filthy Apes and Lions’ (2017), further showcasing his evolution as a songwriter and artist. His signature bass playing, characterized by the use of a pick, palm-muting, and an overdriven signal, has consistently delivered a trebly yet thick, cutting sound that remains a hallmark of his recordings. Most recently, Stoermer contributed to The Killers’ 2023 compilation album, ‘Rebel Diamonds.’ He also rejoined the band for their highly anticipated 2024 Las Vegas residency, where they celebrated the enduring legacy of ‘Hot Fuss,’ reaffirming his vital role within the iconic group while continuing to explore diverse musical projects.
