After co-founding Kompakt in 1997 with Wolfgang and Reinhardt Voigt, Michael Mayer quickly established himself as a significant figure in global dance music. Kompakt, initially conceived as a record shop, rapidly evolved into a multifaceted enterprise encompassing a record label, distribution company, recording studio, and booking agency. Under Mayer’s integral guidance, Kompakt became a central hub for electronic music, profoundly contributing to the global electronic music scene and firmly placing Cologne on the international electronic music map.

Recognized for his production and remixing prowess, Mayer was commissioned for various high-profile projects, notably remixing tracks for iconic artists such as Depeche Mode and Pet Shop Boys.
