Myo Gyi, the esteemed rock singer and guitarist, stands as a towering figure in Myanmar’s music scene, revered as one of the country’s rock icons. Born into a legacy of music and passion, Myo Gyi’s journey towards stardom began with his academic pursuits, studying zoology at the University of Distance Education, Yangon, and ultimately graduating with a BA from Dagon University.
In 1993, Myo Gyi’s musical odyssey commenced as the lead guitarist for the rock band Ghost Rider. However, it was his pivotal role as the lead vocalist of Iron Cross that propelled him to widespread recognition and acclaim. Founded by the legendary guitarist and songwriter Saw Bwe Hmu, Iron Cross became synonymous with Myanmar’s rock music scene, with Myo Gyi leading the charge alongside fellow icons Lay Phyu, Ah Nge, and Y Wine.
Myo Gyi’s solo career soared to new heights with the release of his debut album “Kyauk-sa Mya” in 1997, followed by the commercial success of “Lay Byay” (The Wind) in 1998, solidifying his status as a leading figure in Burmese music.
His achievements are punctuated by milestones such as his first one-man concert “Live in Yangon” in 2007 and the unforgettable “Min 90” (Live 90) performance at the Myanmar Event Park in 2015.
Beyond his musical endeavors, Myo Gyi has ventured into the realm of brand ambassadorship, promoting Oppo Myanmar from 2015 to 2020, further cementing his influence and impact in Myanmar’s cultural landscape.
Married to Zin Mar Lwin, also known as Lone Lone Lwin, since May 20, 2000, Myo Gyi finds solace and inspiration in his family, sharing his passion for music with his two sons, Lin Thuta Myo and Ant Thukha Myo.
