Adam Mitchel Lambert, born on January 29, 1982, in Indianapolis, Indiana, quickly moved to San Diego, California, where he began performing with the Metropolitan Educational Theatre network at age nine. His early involvement in theater and vocal coaching, including performances in local productions like “Hello, Dolly!” and “Grease”, laid the foundation for his future career. After briefly attending California State University, Fullerton, he left to pursue opportunities in the entertainment industry. Early professional work included performing on a cruise ship and touring in a European production of “Hair”. He also appeared in “The Ten Commandments: The Musical” and was an understudy for the role of Fiyero in “Wicked” from 2005 to 2008. These experiences provided him with extensive stage training that would later define his vocal style, combining theatrical flair with modern and classic genres.
Lambert rose to international prominence in 2009 as the runner-up on the eighth season of “American Idol”. His powerful vocal performances and theatricality captivated audiences and judges, particularly marked by his rendition of “Mad World” which earned a standing ovation from Simon Cowell. Following “American Idol”, he released his debut album, “For Your Entertainment”, in 2009, which reached number three on the U.S. Billboard 200 and secured a Grammy nomination for \”Whataya Want from Me\”. His second album, “Trespassing”, released in 2012, debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, making him the first openly gay artist to achieve this milestone. In 2015, “The Original High” peaked at number three on the Billboard 200, featuring the single “Ghost Town” which later achieved RIAA gold certification.
