Born in London on July 17, 1967, Robbie Craig, whose real name is Craig Robert Elkins, began his musical journey at a young age. His early career saw him sign his first record deal with Street Sound at the age of 16. Over the years, Craig built a career through various collaborations and solo projects across different genres. Early solo releases include the singles “Bad Attitude” (1991), “Nothing I Can’t Do” (1992), and “Magic” (1992) with Polydor, followed by “Special” (1995) and “We Can Make It Happen” (1995) on Public Demand. His debut album, “Soul Alchemy,” was released in 2008 by Megafan Records.
A significant turning point in Craig’s career came in 2014 when he joined the English pop boy band East 17 as the lead vocalist, succeeding original member Brian Harvey. This role brought his soulful vocals and dynamic stage presence to a wider audience, contributing to the band’s continued presence in the music scene. With East 17, he participated in the release of their sixth studio album, “24/7,” in 2017, and subsequent singles “I Just Wanna” (2022) and “Merry Quitmas” (2023).
Beyond his work with East 17, Craig has engaged in notable collaborations. He partnered with Artful Dodger and Craig David on the track “Woman Trouble” in 1999, which gained considerable recognition. He also worked with Wideboys and Shola Ama on “Your Mine” in 2001. His discography includes numerous singles and EPs, as well as appearances on various compilations, demonstrating his versatility and sustained contribution to the UK music landscape.
