Royal Blood, an English rock duo, was formed in Worthing in 2011. The current lineup consists of Mike Kerr on vocals, bass guitar, and piano, and Ben Thatcher on drums. The band’s distinct sound is characterized by Kerr’s bass playing, which utilizes various effects pedals and amplifiers to simultaneously produce electric guitar and bass guitar tones. Kerr and Thatcher, who first met in 2005, initially played in a four-piece band called Flavour Country before forming Royal Blood. After an early iteration of the band in Australia, Kerr and Thatcher solidified the duo in Worthing.
After their formation, Royal Blood was signed by Warner Chappell Music in 2013 and subsequently released four studio albums. Their self-titled debut album, “Royal Blood,” was released in 2014 and quickly became the fastest-selling British rock debut album in three years. This success was followed by “How Did We Get So Dark?” in 2017, “Typhoons” in 2021, and “Back to the Water Below” in 2023. These albums have consistently garnered critical acclaim and strong chart performance, with “How Did We Get So Dark?” debuting at number one on the UK Albums Chart. The band has toured extensively, supporting acts like Arctic Monkeys and Foo Fighters, and performing at major festivals such as Glastonbury and Reading.
Royal Blood has received multiple awards and nominations throughout their career. In 2015, they won Best British Group at the Brit Awards, a significant achievement reflecting their impact on the British music scene. They also secured awards for Best Live Band and Best New Band at the NME Awards in the same year. Their music has been featured in video games like NHL 21, FIFA 21, and NASCAR 21: Ignition. The duo maintains an active presence, continuing to release new music and perform globally, including supporting Muse on their world tour.
