Shironamhin

Shironamhin, a Bengali rock band, was formed in Dhaka in 1996 by students Ziaur Rahman (guitar), Jewel (guitar), and Bulbul Hasan (vocals). Emerging from Dhaka’s underground music scene in the late 1990s, the band gained recognition for their psychedelic and progressive rock style, multi-instrumental approach, and philosophical lyrical content. Vocalist Tanzir Tuhin joined the band in 2002. Ziaur Rahman became the primary lyricist and thematic leader for the band’s albums. Their debut album, “Jahaji” (2004), featured the well-known song “Hashimukh.” Subsequent albums included “Icche Ghuri” (2006) and “Bondho Janala” (2009).

The band’s musical exploration expanded with “Shironamhin Rabindranath” (2010), a collection of Rabindra Sangeet, marking a significant milestone as the first such album by a band in Bangladesh. This album incorporated various classical instruments such as sarod, cello, flute, esraj, and violin. In 2013, they released their self-titled album, “Shironamhin Shironamhin,” which included the sequel song “Abar Hashimukh.” Shironamhin became a member of the Bangladesh Musical Bands Association (BAMBA) in 2008.

In 2017, internal tensions led to Tanzir Tuhin’s departure. Sheikh Ishtiaque joined as the new vocalist, and the band continued to release non-album singles such as “Jadukor” (2017), “Bohemian” (2018), “Barud Shomudro” (2018), “Ei Obelay” (2019), and “Cafeteria Periye” (2020), a sequel to their earlier song “Cafeteria.” Their commitment to incorporating classical instruments into a rock framework has defined their sound, contributing to their distinct identity within Bengali music.
