In March 2018, Static and Ben El signed a ten-year, $5 million record deal with Capitol Records to produce seven international albums in English. This partnership aimed to expand their reach beyond the Israeli market.
In 2017, Static & Ben El participated in an advertising campaign for the fashion company Castro, receiving one million shekels for their involvement.
Liraz Russo, known as Static, born in 1990, was adopted and raised in Haifa, Israel. He started playing piano at age three and later guitar. After military service in the Israel Defense Forces, he began working with music producer Omri Segal, using the stage name “Static.” His breakthrough came in 2015 with the song “Ba La Lirkod,” released with DJ Gal Malka, which became a significant success in Israel. Ben-El Tavori, born in 1991, is the son of Israeli singer Shimi Tavori. He made his public singing debut with his father at age 14 in 2005 and later served in the Israeli Air Force.
The two collaborated with producer Yarden Peleg (Jordi) on Ron Nesher’s 2015 single “#DubiGal,” which marked the beginning of their musical partnership. Their first official single as a duo, “Barbie,” was released in November 2015. They quickly rose to fame in Israel with hits like “Silsulim” (2016), “Zahav” (2017), and “Tudo Bom” (2017), with the latter’s original Hebrew-language video becoming the most-watched video in Israeli YouTube history, accumulating approximately 300 million views. They signed a ten-year, $5 million deal with Capitol Records in March 2018 to produce international albums in English.
Over their seven-year career, Static & Ben El released a number of successful English-language collaborations with prominent international artists. These included “Further Up (Na, Na, Na, Na, Na)” (2020) featuring Pitbull, “Shake Ya Boom Boom” (2020) with the Black Eyed Peas, and “Ziki Ziki” (2022) with Snoop Dogg and Lil Baby. The duo also served as judges on the reality show “HaKokhav HaBa.” In August 2022, Static and Ben El announced their split, citing personal issues, with previously scheduled shows still being performed.
