The Lounge Society

The Lounge Society formed in Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire. The band signed with producer Dan Carey and his independent label, Speedy Wunderground, when its members were approximately fifteen years old and still in school. This early signing provided a foundation for their subsequent career in music. The band’s creative process has been described as collaborative and democratic, with all members contributing to the lyrics and music. This approach involved members occasionally switching instruments during recording.

In 2022, The Lounge Society released their debut album, ‘Tired of Liberty.’ The album received positive critical reception, with reviewers noting its energetic sound and politically charged themes. It was conceptualized as an exploration of the interplay between personal and political ideas, with the title itself reflecting a commentary on the manipulation of the concept of liberty. Production of the album with Dan Carey utilized an “ambient room mixing” technique, where recording microphones were progressively moved further away during sessions to capture a natural room sound.

Key milestones in their career include support slots with bands such as The Strokes and Wet Leg. The Lounge Society released several singles from ‘Tired of Liberty’ in 2022, including ‘Blood Money,’ ‘No Driver,’ and ‘Upheaval,’ each accompanied by promotional efforts. The album’s critical success, as reflected by its 82% score on Metacritic indicating “universal acclaim,” highlights their rapid growth and impact within the post-punk and indie rock scenes.
