Tierra Helena Whack is a rapper, musician, and songwriter from the United States. She used to perform as “Dizzle Dizz” as a child, but in 2017 she reverted to her birth name. Whack World, her debut studio album, was released in May 2018 to widespread critical acclaim. Pitchfork awarded Whack World the distinction of “Best New Music” upon its release. The album’s unique format, with each song lasting about one minute, was lauded by critics. Whack has been dubbed the “Missy Elliott” of her generation for the ingenuity and eccentricity of her music videos, which have garnered her a lot of praise. The song “Mumbo Jumbo” was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Music Video in 2019.
Whack began releasing one single per week for five weeks beginning February 19, 2019, in a series she dubbed “#whackhistorymonth.” “Only Child,” “Clones,” “Gloria,” “Wasteland,” and “Unemployed” were among the singles. Whack also collaborated with Flying Lotus on the song “Yellow Belly” for his 2019 album Flamagra, and on June 20, 2019, she was elected to XXL’s 2019 Freshman Class. Coachella, Primavera Sound, Lollapalooza, Outside Lands, Osheaga, and Austin City Limits were among the festivals she performed at in 2019. Her song “Unemployed” appears in the football game FIFA 20.
Whack released her first solo single of the year, “Dora,” in October 2020. Whack made an appearance in the Apple holiday commercial “The Magic of Mini” in November 2020, which included the new singles “Peppers and Onions” and “feel good,” which were released at the same time as the commercial.
