Troye Sivan Mellet was born on June 5, 1995, in Johannesburg, South Africa, and moved to Perth, Australia, at the age of two. Raised in an Orthodox Jewish family, Sivan began his professional career in music and acting at a young age. He performed at the Channel Seven Perth Telethon in 2006, 2007, and 2008, including a duet with Australian Idol winner Guy Sebastian. His acting career started with a role as young James Howlett in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” (2009) and the titular character in the “Spud” film trilogy (2010–2014). In 2013, Sivan gained significant online traction with his YouTube vlogs, accumulating a large subscriber base and winning a Teen Choice Award for a collaboration with Tyler Oakley.
Sivan signed with EMI Australia in 2013, releasing his EP “TRXYE” in 2014, which debuted at number one on iTunes in over 55 countries and reached number five on the US Billboard 200. His career progressed with the release of his fourth EP, “Wild” (2015), and his debut studio album, “Blue Neighbourhood” (2015). The lead single from “Blue Neighbourhood”, “Youth,” became his first to enter the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100. His second studio album, “Bloom” (2018), reached the top five in Australia and the US, with its lead single “My My My!” topping the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart. In 2018, Sivan earned a Golden Globe nomination for Best Original Song for “Revelation,” from the film “Boy Erased,” in which he also appeared.
In recent years, Sivan has continued to release music, including the EP “In a Dream” (2020) and his third studio album, “Something to Give Each Other” (2023). Singles from this album, “Rush,” “Got Me Started,” and “One of Your Girls,” charted internationally, with “Rush” receiving two Grammy Award nominations. His acting roles have included the film “Three Months” (2022) and the HBO series “The Idol” (2023). Beyond entertainment, Sivan has established himself as a prominent brand ambassador for companies such as Valentino, Calvin Klein, Cartier, and Rabanne, and co-founded his own lifestyle brand, Tsu Lange Yor, in 2023.
