Vincent Neil Wharton was born on February 8, 1961, in Los Angeles, California. He spent his early childhood in Southern California, moving from Inglewood to Watts before his family settled in Glendora. During his teenage years, Neil developed an interest in various activities including surfing, basketball, baseball, football, and wrestling, alongside his passion for music. His musical influences included bands like Van Halen, AC/DC, and Aerosmith. He gained initial recognition while performing with his band Rock Candy.
In 1981, Neil joined Mötley Crüe as their lead vocalist. His recording debut with the band was on their 1981 album, “Too Fast for Love.” The band achieved significant fame with their 1983 album, “Shout at the Devil,” and continued to release successful albums throughout the decade, including “Theatre of Pain,” “Girls, Girls, Girls,” and “Dr. Feelgood,” which became a number one album. Neil’s distinctive vocal style and stage presence contributed to Mötley Crüe’s status as a prominent glam metal act of the 1980s. He later embarked on a solo career, releasing his debut solo album “Exposed” in 1993, which reached No. 13 on the Billboard charts. He followed this with “Carved in Stone” in 1995 and “Tattoos & Tequila” in 2010.
Beyond his musical career, Neil has engaged in various business ventures and philanthropic efforts. In 1995, he founded the Skylar Neil Memorial Fund in honor of his late daughter, Skylar Neil, to raise awareness and funding for children’s illnesses. His business endeavors have included establishing a tattoo parlor, Vince Neil Ink, in Las Vegas, launching Vince Vineyards, and creating his own brand of tequila, Tres Rios. In 2014, he co-acquired ownership of the Arena Football League’s Jacksonville Sharks as CEO and chairman of RockStar Investment Group. He has also made appearances in television and film, including “The Surreal Life” and “The New Celebrity Apprentice.”
