While She Sleeps, an English metalcore band, was formed in Renishaw, near Sheffield, England, in 2006. The original lineup included Jordan Widdowson on vocals, Adam Savage on drums, Aaran McKenzie on bass, and Mat Welsh and Sean Long on guitars. The members had played together in various bands before forming While She Sleeps. Their initial release was the EP, *And This Is Just the Start*, in 2006. After Widdowson’s departure in 2009 due to work commitments, Lawrence Taylor joined as lead vocalist, solidifying the current and enduring lineup. The band toured extensively in the UK and Europe from late 2009 to 2010, building a following that attracted media and label attention.
Their third EP, *The North Stands for Nothing*, was released on July 26, 2010, through Small Town Records. This was followed by a deal with Good Fight Music in October 2010 for US distribution. In February 2011, they recorded a live session for BBC Radio 1 and released the non-album single “Be(lie)ve” in March 2011. The band opened for Bring Me the Horizon in Sheffield in May 2011 and later toured as direct support for House vs Hurricane in Australia in 2012. Their debut album, *This Is the Six*, was released on August 13, 2012, under Search and Destroy Records and Sony. This album’s success led to them winning the Best British Newcomer award at the Kerrang! Awards 2012. Throughout 2013, they supported Parkway Drive in America and Canada and participated in the Vans Warped Tour across both countries.
A significant career turning point occurred when vocalist Lawrence Taylor underwent throat surgery in late 2013, causing cancellations of shows into 2014. Despite this challenge, the band released their second album, *Brainwashed*, on March 23, 2015. They continued to evolve their approach to the music industry, parting ways with their record label in September 2016 to gain creative control. Their third album, *You Are We*, released on April 21, 2017, was made possible through a PledgeMusic campaign and marked a partnership with Australian independent label UNFD. This trajectory culminated in the launch of their own label, Sleeps Brothers, and an innovative subscription service called Sleeps Society via Patreon in 2020, demonstrating their commitment to independence and direct fan engagement. Their sixth studio album, *Self Hell*, was released on March 29, 2024.
