United States Abby Roque is an accomplished ice hockey forward, transitioning from collegiate success to a prominent role in professional women’s hockey and international competition.

Abby Roque was born on September 25, 1997, in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. Her ice hockey career began at age six, playing on boys’ teams in her youth due to limited options for girls’ hockey. During her high school years at Sault Area High School, she was the sole female player on the varsity boys’ hockey team, serving as an alternate captain in her senior season. She consistently demonstrated her skill, tallying 16 goals and 20 assists for a total of 36 points in her senior year.
Roque further developed her career at the University of Wisconsin, where she became a highly decorated collegiate athlete. Across 155 NCAA games, she accumulated 170 points. Her college tenure saw her earn numerous accolades, including WCHA Rookie of the Year in 2016–17, two WCHA Offensive Player of the Year awards (2017–18, 2019–20), and a spot on the NCAA All-Tournament Team in 2019, the same year she scored the game-winning goal in the NCAA Championship semifinals. In 2020, she was recognized as USCHO Division I Women’s Player of the Year and USA Hockey’s Women’s Hockey Player of the Year, in addition to being a top-three finalist for the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award. She also made her debut with the U.S. National Team in the 2019-20 Rivalry Series, scoring two goals.
Following her collegiate career, Roque joined the Professional Women’s Hockey Players Association (PWHPA) in 2020, playing for Team Minnesota. Notably, she participated in the inaugural professional women’s ice hockey event at Madison Square Garden in February 2021. In September 2023, she signed a three-year contract with PWHL New York (later New York Sirens) and in March 2025, she scored the first ‘Michigan goal’ in PWHL history. In June 2025, Roque was traded to the Montreal Victoire. On the international stage, she has represented the United States in multiple IIHF World Women’s U18 Championships, securing a silver medal in 2014 and a gold medal in 2015. She also earned a silver medal at the 2022 Winter Olympics and a gold medal at the 2023 IIHF Women’s World Championship.
