Adam Conover

Adam Conover was born in 1982 or 1983 in Smithtown, New York, and grew up in Wading River. His academic background includes a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Bard College, which he obtained in 2004. During his time at Bard College, he became a member of the sketch comedy group Olde English in 2002. Conover has often noted that he is the only member of his immediate family without a Ph.D., as his father is a marine biologist, his mother is a botanist, and his sister holds a Ph.D. in particle physics.

Conover’s career began to gain traction in 2012 when he joined CollegeHumor as a sketch comedy writer and performer. It was there that he developed the web series that would later become the TruTV show, “Adam Ruins Everything.” The television adaptation premiered on September 29, 2015, and aimed to challenge common misconceptions across various topics. He served as the host, co-creator, and executive producer for the series, which ran for multiple seasons, concluding production in 2019. In addition to his on-screen roles, Conover has voiced characters in animated series such as “BoJack Horseman” and “Tuca & Bertie,” and hosted the American version of “The Crystal Maze” on Nickelodeon starting in 2020.

In 2022, Conover debuted his limited series, “The G Word with Adam Conover,” on Netflix, focusing on the operations of the U.S. federal government. He also hosts the podcast “Factually! With Adam Conover.” Conover is actively involved in industry advocacy, serving on the board of the Writers Guild of America West and participating in the 2023 WGA contract negotiating committee. He has demonstrated a commitment to social issues, including supporting Housing First policies and advocating for workers’ rights.
