Adele Givens was born on January 3, 1960, in Chicago, Illinois. She began her career in comedy in the late 1980s, establishing herself through consistent performances. A significant early achievement was winning the Grand Prize at the Crown Royal Comedy Contest in Chicago in 1989. The following year, she was a finalist in the Miller Lite Comedy Search. These early successes provided a foundation for her transition into wider recognition within the entertainment industry.

Givens made her television debut on HBO’s “Def Comedy Jam” in 1992, an appearance that substantially raised her profile. This led to roles in various television series, including “Martin” (1996), “Moesha” (1996), “The Steve Harvey Show” (1997), “Tracey Takes On…” (1998–1999), “The Parkers” (2000), and “The Hughleys” (2001–2002). Her film career includes roles in “The Players Club” (1998) and “Beauty Shop” (2005). Givens also featured in “The Queens of Comedy” tour, which was filmed for Showtime in 2002 and later released on DVD. Her career progression demonstrates a sustained presence across diverse comedic and acting platforms.

In addition to acting and stand-up, Givens has also worked as a writer, contributing to projects such as “Comedy Central Presents” (2002) and “Def Comedy Jam” (2006). She expanded her career into producing with executive producer credits for “Sex Ain’t Love” (2014) and “My Last Time” (2016).
